BONK! In einer dunklen Nacht im Januar 1477 klopft es an das Haupttor des St. John&#8217;s Hospital. Bruder Alphonsus stolpert die Treppe hinunter, \u00f6ffnet die T\u00fcr und taucht sofort in seine warme Kutte, um die stechende K\u00e4lte abzuwehren. Es hat stark geschneit. Im heulenden Wind h\u00f6rt er einen Seufzer und eine dunkle Gestalt f\u00e4llt ihm zu F\u00fc\u00dfen. &#8222;Hilfe, holt Hilfe!&#8220;, ruft Alfons und sofort eilen drei Br\u00fcder herbei, um den Fremden hochzuheben und ihn in den mittleren Raum zu legen.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Drei Tage und drei N\u00e4chte wachten sie \u00fcber ihn. Er erhielt ein Bett und nahrhafte Mahlzeiten, um wieder zu Kr\u00e4ften zu kommen. Langsam begann der Fremde wieder zu sprechen. Es stellte sich heraus, dass er ein S\u00f6ldner aus der Armee Karls des K\u00fchnen war, der in der dramatischen Schlacht von Nancy gefallen war. Der Soldat war ausgeraubt und schwer verletzt nach Br\u00fcgge gekommen. Er nannte keinen Namen und hielt sich \u00fcber seine Herkunft \u00e4u\u00dferst bedeckt.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>TICKETS:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/s-wan.be\/de\/wanderfuehrer\/?re-product-id=187786&#038;rwstep=product\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Van Bonifaciusbrug tot BRUSK: Brugges eigen museummijl<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Das Wunder geschieht!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eines Tages lieh er sich von Bruder Alphonsus einige Tafeln, einige \u00d6lfarben und einen Pinsel, um sich zu besch\u00e4ftigen. Er f\u00fchlte sich noch zu schwach, um zu gehen, war aber des langen Wartens m\u00fcde. Die Br\u00fcder lassen ihn gew\u00e4hren. Nach einigen Wochen enth\u00fcllte er ein gro\u00dfartiges Werk: Sein Sankt-Ursula-Schrein verlieh einer der wichtigsten Reliquien der Br\u00fcder und Schwestern vom Heiligen Johannes Glanz und Gloria.<br\/><br\/>Der geheimnisvolle Soldat hatte sich zu einem genialen K\u00fcnstler entwickelt: Hans Memling. Er lie\u00df sich in der Stadt nieder und erhielt Auftr\u00e4ge von mehreren prominenten Einwohnern. Er wurde schlie\u00dflich selbst zu einem der f\u00fchrenden Torw\u00e4chter von Br\u00fcgge und wurde auf dem reichen Friedhof von St. Gillis beigesetzt. Ein Memling-Zimmer befindet sich noch immer im St. John&#8217;s Hospital.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jenseits der Legende: die Memling-Sammlung im St. John&#8217;s Hospital<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das Sammeln einer Museumssammlung h\u00e4ngt weniger von gl\u00fccklichen Zuf\u00e4llen ab, als Sie vielleicht denken. Im <sup>19.<\/sup> und <sup>20.<\/sup> Jahrhundert bem\u00fchten sich die Johanniterinnen sehr, ihre sechs wundersch\u00f6nen Memlinge, von denen sie einige selbst bestellt hatten, zu erhalten und der \u00d6ffentlichkeit zu zeigen. Sie erhielten sowohl Kritik als auch Unterst\u00fctzung von Pers\u00f6nlichkeiten wie James Weale (1832-1917), der von der Memling-Legende nicht sehr angetan war. Die Arbeit mit Memlings umso mehr.
